Formed in 2000, ZELA promotes environmental justice, the sustainable and equitable use of natural resources, democracy and good governance across the environment sector. Helping communities to understand their legal rights, ZELA has helped to protect rural ways of life and conserve the environment. ZELA coordinates legal and policy research, advocacy, impact litigation, conflict resolution and civic education across various areas including mining, forest management, wildlife management and water management.
