ABN speaks out against Channel 4 polemic documentary
The African Biodiversity Network recently joined a coalition of southern organisations to speak out against polemic documentary What the Green Movement Got Wrong, aired on UK Television on 4th November. The documentary was pro-GM and made accusations against the green movement for preventing GM crops in Africa. ABN partners co-penned a letter to channel 4 complaining about the lack of southern voices on the documentary and stating the ABN’s position on GM and the devastating affects it would have on Africa. ABN partner the Mupo Foundation supports the Venda people as they fight for their Sacred Sites
Earlier this year ABN partner the Mupo Foundation found itself in the middle of a critical battle to protect the sacred sites of the Venda community in South Africa. Just months after the ABN and Gaia Foundation had co-ordinated an eco-cultural mapping process with the community, their research became fundamental to a fight to protect their sacred Phiphidi waterfall from destruction from tourist chalets.
